Weekly Recap of OC Sports

On this episode of The Weekly Comet Round-Up, we will be talking about the football team, the men’s and women’s soccer team, men’s and women’s swim and dive team and finishing with the comets who brought home MIAA athletes of the week awards.

Men’s soccer

Men’s soccer faced the Adrian Bulldogs this past Wednesday for the last regular season game of the year, winning the game 4-2. The men finished this regular season with four wins, ten losses and a tie, finishing with two wins, four losses and a tie in conference play. Now that the regular season is over, it is time for the MIAA tournament. The men will take on the flying dutchmen of Hope College on Saturday at Hope at 6pm.

Women’s soccer

The women’s soccer team wrapped up their season this past Tuesday, falling to Hope College 2-0. The women finished the season with one win and ten losses while going zero and eight in conference play. Congrats to our comets on a great season, we are all very proud of each and every one of you.

Men’s swim and dive

The men’s swim and dive team have a meet this Friday, October 29th at Alma College at 6pm.

Women’s swim and dive

The women’s swim and dive team also have a meet this Friday, October 29th at Alma College at 6pm. Make sure to wish your comets good luck this weekend!

Football

The Comets football team traveled to Albion this past Saturday to play the Britons of Albion. The comets fell to the britons 38-17. The men have won four games this year while losing three, including one win and three loses in conference play. The comets have now lost three games straight but look to bounce back as they take on the Hornets of Kalamazoo College here at Cutler, Saturday at 1pm.

MIAA athletes of the week

This week, we had three comets bring home MIAA athlete of the week honors, way to go comets! We had one athlete from the men’s swim and dive team, one athlete from the women’s swim and dive team and one athlete from the women’s volleyball team all bring these awards home to Olivet.

Freshman, Gavin Sutton, brought home the MIAA diver of the week award for the men’s swim and dive team by posting 243.05 points in his collegiate debut on the one-meter diving board. This was also ninth best in school history for a six-dive program. Way to go Gavin!

Sophomore, Jennifer Mann, brought home the MIAA swimmer of the week award for the women’s swim and dive team by finishing first in two individual events. Mann also broke the Upton center pool record with a personal best time of 10:54.12 in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Mann also led OC to first-place time of 2:00.54 in the 200 yard relay and anchored the 200 yard freestyle relay with the fastest split (25.74) of the race. She also had the fastest breaststroke split with a time of 32.33 seconds. Awesome job Jennifer!

Senior, Drue Mullin, brought home the last MIAA award for the comets being named the specialist of the week for the women’s volleyball team. She had a match high of 25 digs against Kalamazoo College. Mullin also served 4 of Olivet’s 15 aces along with 5 set assists. Mullin also leads the team with 346 digs and 34 aces, outstanding work Drue!
